Why Have A Site In English About A Band Almost Zero
English-Speaking People Have Ever Heard Of?
A. They're Great
![]() They are. Really. You should check them out if you can. They certainly deserve a Web page. ![]() B. The Web is Actually Useful for This Sort Of Thing ![]() I searched the Web for the words "Unicorn" and "Japan" and couldn't find anything like this out there. It's my hope that the next person who tries the same search will stumble onto this page. ![]() Likewise, a search for "Tamio Okuda" turned up a bunch of people who had listed his name as part of their record collection or as one of their favorite singers. Some of these page owners seem to speak English better than I speak Japanese. I can email them and hope they're interested in this project. ![]() Essentially, by putting this out as a lighthouse for interested others, I can make contact with some people who like the same band I do. Why is this important? Well, as I mention elsewhere, I speak very little Japanese and I don't live in Japan, which makes the following tasks difficult: |
1. Getting details about the history of the band
![]() 2. Getting details about new releases by its ex-Members ![]() 3. Finding out what the song lyrics mean ![]() |
I hope that I can collect some of this information from those who know and pass it on to others (like me) who are wanting to know.
![]() C. Primal Greed ![]() If you go to Japantown in Los Angeles and try to buy a Unicorn CD it will cost you about $35~40. Ouch. Turns out they're about that expensive if you show up in Japan with a fistful of yen. But ... what about the "used" bins of Japanese record stores? Turns out, according to my most gracious contact in that country, these things turn up frequently at the sorts of prices that make thankful westerners go "please." ![]() So wouldn't it be great if I could find others in Japan with easy access to Unicorn paraphenalia who wanted to trade those things for something found readily in Southern California (and elsewhere) and not at all in their native country? ![]() Yes. It would be. And eventually I envision a great network of Unicorn fans worldwide trading the fruits of their local used disc shops. If you're looking for something particular, mail me and I'll start keeping a database of who wants what and who's offering to go get it. ![]() |
